Seeing Istanbul does not have to mean hours on your feet. Planned in the right order, a route shows you the city's best views mostly from the car and from a seat.
The route below takes half a day, roughly four to five hours. Distances between stops are short and the car waits nearby at each one.
Start in the afternoon
Leaving around 14:00 avoids morning traffic and crowds, and moves you towards sunset. The end of the route is timed for it deliberately.
1. Çamlıca Hill — 30 minutes
One of the highest points on the Asian side. The car goes almost to the top, so walking is minimal. Both shores of the Bosphorus fit in one view — the right way to fix the city's map in your head.
2. Kuzguncuk and Beylerbeyi shore road — from the car
No need to get out. This road along the Asian shore shows you the coloured wooden houses and waterfront mansions through the window. Short stops for photographs are possible at a few points.
3. Crossing the Bosphorus Bridge — 10 minutes
Asia to Europe, the part people remember. Depending on the light, the left or right lane gives the better view; the driver arranges it.
4. Ortaköy — 45 minutes
Mosque, bridge and sea in one frame. The square is small and the walking is short. The best point on the route to sit down with tea.
5. Emirgan or Bebek waterfront — 30 minutes
Which one is lovelier depends on the season. Both have somewhere to sit by the water, with the car a few steps away.
6. Pierre Loti or Ulus — sunset
The closing stop. The sun setting over the Golden Horn or the Bosphorus shows the city at its best. The driver times the arrival to the season.
How to make it lighter
- Cut the stops to four — not rushing is worth more than one more view
- Allow 30-45 minutes per stop; fifteen is not enough
- Mention any stairs in advance, the driver knows alternative drop-off points
- In summer, avoid long stops outdoors before 16:00
Why with a driver
Covering these six stops by public transport adds about three hours and requires walking at every change. By car the time between stops drops to minutes, and you spend your energy on the view instead.
